Jamaica Comes to Saarland

What's going on? Jamaica is coming to Saarland? How's that possible, any celebration? If you think that, you should maybe have a look at my article about the colours of political parties.

Greens were able to choose

After the elections for the state parliament in Saarland (some weeks before the elections for the Bundestag) the Greens were able to choose their coalition partners. They had the possibility between either SPD and Linke or CDU and FDP. The Greens have talked with all parties and they had a party congress today on which they voted for one of the possibilities.

Lafontaine was the reason

Since the left party Die Linke has always militated against the Greens in the campaign, most of the visitors of the congress have now voted for the so called Jamaica coalition with CDU and FDP. Another reason for this decision was the plan of Oskar Lafontaine to remain leader of the left faction if there would have been a coalition between Greens, SPD and Linke.

Accommodation for the Greens

The Greens were able to achieve many of their plans and demand some ministers. They would get the Ministry of Education and the one for environment. Therefore, tuition fees would probably be abolished and no new coal-fired power plants would be built. Moreover, it is said that CDU would resign the automatical detection of licence numbers and computer surveillance.
