Web store
There have been some improvements at an existing web store to enhance the user interaction. For this purpose, especially the shopping cart and the purchasing system have been changed to allow the user to buy products both with and without registration. Moreover, the user will be shown similar products after adding a product to the cart.
Image gallery
I developed an image gallery to display multiple pictures within a textual entry (e.g. news or product). The gallery includes Lightbox 2 and therefore is usable in all browsers with an without support for Javascript. The task also required an administration panel to add and remove pictures. Each image is automatically scaled down to an adequate size (too small images are not enlarged) leaving the aspect ratio unchanged.
XML-sitemap
XML-sitemaps are useful to tell search engines which pages you deem to be the most important ones and how often they probably change. The search engine does not have to use this information, but it can.
The XML-sitemap is generated using PHP and MySQL to gather both static and dynamical pages (e.g. news entries). It will then be processed to send it to the client as a valid XML-sitemap document.
Newsletter system
To supply visitors with new information about the project, you can use a newsletter system. This system can send information to different groups of people depending on what they are interested in.
The newsletter script was implemented as an independant class to assure flexibility. Therefore, it is possible to allow a customer to request a newsletter on different pages of the website, e.g. at account registration and on a special site only for newsletter registration. Furthermore, you can also allow the user to unsubscribe in multiple ways. Some users might use a link within the e-mail, others might unsubscribe at the administration panel.
